Discover Why a Health Checkup Could be Your Key to Good Long-Term Health!
There are two basic keys to living a long and healthy life:
1. Lead a healthy, active lifestyle
2. Take measures to prevent illness whenever possible
When it comes to #2 above - preventive medicine – the importance of an NHS Health Check can’t be over emphasised.
Available to adults in England ages 40 to 74, the NHS Health Check is designed to spot early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and dementia.
As we get older, we have a higher risk of developing one of these conditions. An NHS Health Check assesses your risk and helps you find ways to lower that risk.
You are eligible for a free Health Check once every five years. Once you’ve had your Health Check, your General Practitioner (GP) will go over your results with you and will give you expert advice on how to lower your risk of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, diabetes and dementia as well as steps you can take to maintain or improve your overall health.
Regular Health Checks Provide the Foundation for Long Life!
Preventive care, like that offered through the Health Check, has been shown to help people visit the hospital less, take fewer prescription medications, miss less work, manage chronic conditions better, and save money.
Thanks to findings from the Health Check GPs can take steps to prevent possible issues and avoid more expensive treatment later on, after the condition has progressed.
These comprehensive exams allow CPs to see changes in your health earlier and start appropriate therapy.
Aging processes begin early in life, and anti-aging efforts should be started as soon as possible. This physical examination, repeated every five years, helps CPs recognize these factors and make targeted recommendations.
